The ghost of Aurangzeb is back to haunt us. There were some Hindu groups burning Aurangzeb’s portrait, demanding his grave in Khuldabad be destroyed. India can’t keep dredging up the disgraceful detritus to salvage its diverse destiny every time some film flops out, offends, or provokes the perpetually fragile with eminently hurtable sentiments. There will always be that one Hindu polishing Aurangzeb’s villain trophy or deifying Godse for political reasons. There will always be that one Muslim muttering “R.A.” like it’s a secret handshake.
