SC adjourns hearing on Shaheen Bagh till 23 March

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Wednesday adjourned till 23 March the hearing on pleas challenging the ongoing protests against Citizenship Amendment Act, 2019 at New Delhi’s Shaheen Bagh. The court held that it will hear the case on Shaheen Bagh once things have settled and there is a favourable environment to hear the pleas related to the sensitive issues arising from anti-CAA protests. Hundreds of people have been on a sit-in demonstration along a stretch in south Delhi’s Shaheen Bagh to protest the contentious CAA for more than two months. Advocate and activist Amit Sahni had filed a plea in the SC against Shaheen Bagh protesters, claiming that the sit-in disrupted daily life in the area.
