Supreme Court slams Guruvayur temple's decision to skip ancient ritual on Ekadasi
India TodayThe Supreme Court on Wednesday agreed to examine a plea against the Kerala High Court order in favour of the administration of the Guruvayur Sri Krishna temple in the state which decided to discontinue the ancient ritual of "udayasthamana pooja" on Ekadasi, citing crowd management issues. The petitioners, members of the hereditary priestly family, had approached the Supreme Court after the Kerala High Court upheld the temple’s decision. The temple administration recently decided not to conduct the ritual on ekadasi, citing difficulties over crowd management and the desire to allow more devotees time for darshan. The Supreme Court has now issued a notice to the temple management, the Kerala government, and the Tantri, and will hear the case in four weeks.
