Long Tale of Bid to Locate Hanuman's Birthplace That Has Sparked A Fiery Debate between States, Scholars

Was Lord Hanuman born in Karnataka or Andhra Pradesh? There has been a raging debate on Lord Hanuman’s real birthplace — Anjanadri hills near Tirumala hills in AP or the Anjaneya Betta in Karnataka’s Hampi. The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams, a prestigious temple dedicated to Lord Venkateshwara, maintains that Hanuman was born in the Anjanadri hills in Tirumala, Andhra Pradesh. With the Ram temple on course in Ayodhya, a Hampi-based private trust, Hanumad Janmabhoomi Teertha Kshetra, has started initial work to build a 215-metre Hanuman statue, six metres short of the Ram statue in Ayodhya. Jagadguru Sri Ramabhadracharya of the Sri Tulasi Peeth Seva Nyas, Chitrakoot, sided with the TTD’s claim that Anjanadri hills in Tirumala was indeed Hanuman’s birthplace.
