5 more cheetahs to be released into wild in MP's Kuno before monsoon
India TV NewsMadhya Pradesh: Five more cheetahs including two males and three females will be released from the acclimatisation camps into free-ranging conditions in Madhya Pradesh's Kuno National Park before the onset of the monsoon in June, the Union Environment Ministry said on Monday. The Cheetahs will be allowed to go out of the Kuno National Park area and may not be "recaptured unless they venture into areas where they are in significant danger". "Five more cheetahs will be released from the acclimatisation camps into free-roaming conditions in KNP before the onset of the monsoon rains in June," the ministry said in a statement. The team comprising Adrian Tordiffe, Veterinary Wildlife Specialist, University of Pretoria, South Africa; Vincent van der Merwe, Manager, Cheetah Metapopulation Project, South Africa; Qamar Qureshi, Lead Scientist, Wildlife Institute of India, and Amit Mallick, Inspector General of Forests, National Tiger Conservation Authority, visited KNP on April 30.
