Read our privacy policy The UK’s biggest emitters should be made to pay carbon taxes – with the funds raised going towards efforts to tackle the climate and nature crises, a “citizens’ climate jury” has said. In addition to backing the introduction of a carbon tax for the UK’s biggest polluters, the jury also said that the UK should introduce a national nature service and more scholarships to help people get into “green jobs”. It follows on from the UK’s “ climate assembly ”, a first-of-its-kind project that asked the public its opinion on how the country should reach net-zero emissions by 2050. “There’s a real appetite for an ambitious approach to addressing the climate and nature crises, provided that those policies also increase equality, improve wellbeing and put local communities in the driving seat.
