Deaf students make music with Melbourne Symphony Orchestra

ABC

Deaf high school students are playing music with members of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra as part of a workshop with a profoundly deaf concert pianist. Mr Lane said deaf people can gain self-confidence and a sense of community through playing music. Mr Lane said deaf people can be vulnerable to mental illness, but the physical experience of playing music can provide an "emotional outlet". "The objective is just really giving students an equal opportunity to access music the way any other child would be able to," Ms Kyriakou told 774 ABC Melbourne's Red Symons.
