Eric Bledsoe is not Jrue Holiday, and that’s OK. Here’s what he brings Pelicans
New York TimesEric Bledsoe may have the toughest task of any player on the New Orleans Pelicans roster this season. As if it wasn’t hard enough to overcome those hurdles heading into his 11th season, Bledsoe replaces Jrue Holiday, maybe the most beloved player in Pelicans franchise history. On-ball defense Defense is rarely shown on highlight packages after games, but it’s hard not to get excited when watching Bledsoe and Holiday go to work on that end of the court. I mean, look how much his production dropped off from the regular season to the playoffs: Bledsoe’s regular-season numbers with the Bucks: 210 games, 16.3 ppg, 4.4 RPG, 5.3 APG, 1.5 SPG, 47.9 FG%, 34.0 3PT%, 78.0 FT% Bledsoe’s postseason numbers with the Bucks: 31 games, 13.1 ppg, 3.9 RPG, 4.6 APG, 1.1 SPG, 41.1 FG%, 25.4 3PT%, 73.2 FT% Much of this dropoff has to do with Bledsoe and Milwaukee’s lack of general adaptability when its style of play during the regular season doesn’t transfer over against top competition. Bledsoe’s isolation numbers were pretty decent last season, shooting 51.8 percent on 56 field goal attempts, per Synergy.
