European Parliament can change David Cameron's EU deal AFTER UK has its referendum
Daily MailAny agreement will be binding on EU leaders but not the EU's parliament Expected to trigger a June referendum but MEPs will not vote until after The PM will try and finalise his deal with EU leaders at a summit this week MEPs will vote on legislation for the deal but NOT before UK's referendum The European Parliament could modify David Cameron's deal with the EU after Britain has voted on whether to stay in, it emerged today. But Cameron was dealt a blow today as it emerged MEPs will vote on the UK's deal AFTER the referendum The PM, pictured alongside his aides in Paris tonight, insists the deal reached this week will be 'legally binding' and 'lodged at the United Nations' despite MEPs only debating and voting on the deal after the referendum But while the leaders of all 28 EU member states will have to sign up to the agreement before it is finished the European Parliament will still have to pass legislation to enact it - and MEPs will not be party to any legally binding deal. The EU President Donald Tusk took to Twitter to tell European leaders not to push Britain out of the EU, warning: 'What is broken cannot be mended' David Cameron, pictured meeting French President Francois Hollande in Paris tonight, wants non-eurozone countries such as the UK to be given the power to block any decision that would strengthen the euro at the expense of the pound, a demand that has faced opposition from Mr Hollande This evening he took to Twitter to warn European leaders that the 'risk of break-up is real' and said negotiations were still 'very fragile,' adding: 'Handle with care'. No 10 insisted there were no plans to meet Mr Farage European Parliament president Martin Shulz, pictured left, will meet with David Cameron, right at a dinner in Hamburg last week, in Brussels tomorrow to discuss the proposed deal for the UK Downing Street today insisted Mr Cameron did not expect problems in getting his 'legally binding' deal past MEPs in the European Parliament This regulation will then be debated and voted on by MEPs.
