State denied opportunity to present its stand at meet convened by Union Agriculture Minister: P. Prasad
The HinduAgriculture Minister P. Prasad has alleged that the State was not given an opportunity to highlight the problems faced by its farm sector at a virtual meeting convened by Union Agriculture Minister Shivaraj Singh Chouhan on Saturday ahead of Union Budget 2025-26. He alleged that the virtual meeting with State Agriculture Ministers was merely intended to create the impression that the opinions of the States had been sought ahead of the budget presentation. Kerala’s requirements in the budget include special packages for addressing issues related to climate change, allocations for addressing problems faced by paddy, coconut, cardamom, pepper, coffee and rubber farmers and solutions to human-wildlife conflict. Denying States including Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka an opportunity to present their stand at the meeting reflected the Centre’s discrimination against southern States, he alleged.
