‘When you have the option to save a life, why would you go to a breeder?’

When artist Gumi Malhotra’s dog, Elsa, crossed the rainbow bridge in 2021, she decided to adopt another dog as “Rascal, my other dog, was lonely,” says Malhotra, who was based out of Bengaluru back then. When you have the option to save a life, why would you go to a breeder?” In her opinion, this calendar could play an important role in promoting indie dog adoption. “Our primary motto is to show people how adorable these puppies are,” she says, something evident in the calendar, filled with portraits of gorgeous little puppies with large, liquid eyes. “It is amazing how many varieties these puppies come in: you won’t see one puppy who looks similar to the other,” says Pani, pointing out that every pup’s eyes are filled with life, love and hope, even though they are often rescued from difficult circumstances.
