Mizoram blames CRPF after border clash with Assam, Centre summons top officials from both states
India TodayThe central government has summoned top officials of Assam and Mizoram to New Delhi on Wednesday. Assam chief secretary Jishnu Baru and his counterpart in Mizoram - Pu Lalnunmawia Chuaungo - will attend the meeting, along with Assam Director General of Police Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta and Mizoram DGP SBK Singh. "The bloody clashes could have been averted had CRPF personnel prevented Assam police from entering Mizoram territory," Lalruatkima told news agency PTI. The long-standing border dispute between Assam and Mizoram flared up after police forces and civilians of the two states clashed on the outskirts of Vairengte in Mizoram's Kolasib district on Monday. Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma alleged that Mizoram police used "light machine guns" at Assam police resulting in the deaths of five cops and a civilian on Monday.
