Can investments for Gujarat from Modi's US visit be a game changer for BJP?
India TodayPrime Minister Narendra Modi’s official visit to the US has brought some much-needed relief to Gujarat. Ever since Modi, a former Gujarat chief minister, ascended to the country’s top job, Gujarat has been suffering in industrial investment—once a long suit of the state. Coming ahead of the December assembly election, the announcement had boosted the BJP’s ‘double engine sarkaar’ campaign—meaning the central and state governments working together for Gujarat’s development. GIFT City, or the Gujarat International Finance Tec-City, is the equivalent of a central business district envisioned by Modi as the state’s CM in 2007. The Shiv Sena had also criticised the shifting of the Vedanta-Foxconn project to Gujarat as an injustice to Maharashtra and favouring Gujarat since it is Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah’s home state.
