Labour will reinstate 2030 deadline for petrol and diesel car ban

The Telegraph

Mr Reed said his party was not considering such policies, adding Mr Sunak was constructing “straw men” and “inventing things” to attack Labour. He warned that Mr Sunak’s policy shift would mean “we’re not going to hit our net zero targets” as well as harming the motor industry. Mr Reed said car makers have been “gearing up” for the 2030 date by making plans to shift production towards electric powered vehicles. ‘Trash our economic future’ Ed Miliband, the shadow energy secretary, claimed the move would “trash our economic future” and “load more costs onto the British people”. The party also opposed Mr Sunak’s scaled down plans to phase out fossil fuel boilers from 2035 and said it had “never agreed” to Government deadlines.
