In partnership with the Hammond family, renewable energy company UPC wants to build a $1.6 billion wind farm on the island. Wind farms and birds 'incompatible', says wildlife expert Wildlife researcher Nick Mooney agrees the wind farm, with turbines moving at up to 300 kilometres per hour, would be bad news for birds. Tasmania has designs on being the so-called "battery of the nation", using its hydro projects to store renewable energy from wind farms and solar farms.
