Kerala HC asks CPI(M) ,CPI and Congress leaders to appear in contempt of court case
The HinduA Division Bench of the Kerala High Court on Thursday asked Communist Party of India State secretary M.V. Govindan, Communist Party of India State secretary Binoy Viswam and various other leaders of the CPI, CPI and Congress to appear in person before the court on February 10 in a contempt of court case initiated against them for holding meeting by violating the High Court order banning meetings on public roads and footpaths. The Congress leaders including Muhammed Shiyas, president, Ernakulam District Congress Committee are facing contempt of court charges for holding a protest in front of Kochi Corporation demanding the resignation of Mayor M. Anilkumar. The court passed the order on a petition filed by N. Prakash of Ernakulam seeking a contempt case against the leaders for violating a 2010 court order banning public meetings on roads and road margins. The Bench while hearing the contempt court case observed that a prima facie case has been made out and the leaders’ action cannot be taken lightly.
