South Australian rape survivor tells court of her angst at speaking out

ABC

A South Australian rape survivor has told a court of her angst that she would not be believed because the attack happened "behind closed doors" and how her fear of speaking out would "resonate" with many women. She said because the rape happened behind closed doors, Benfell could lie, describing that as "one of the most hurtful things that a person could do to a rape survivor". Victim does not seek vengeance In her statement, she told Benfell that she was not there to "seek vengeance" but hoped the court would impose a fair penalty for his crime. "I fear that the defendant could rape again and I never want another women to be violated and suffer the way I have," she told the court.
