Punjab pledges full support to Centre for key highway construction projects
India TodayThe AAP government in Punjab said on Monday that it would fully support the Centre for the completion of key infrastructure projects under the National Highways Authority of India in the state. Public Works Department Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO said the government would ensure proper law and order in the state and would fully support the Centre for the completion of the projects. The Centre had expressed concern over delays in these projects due to land acquisition issues, with Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari threatening to cancel stalled highway projects in the state. Gadkari has now announced that NHAI would invite fresh tenders and re-award contracts for the terminated or stalled highway projects in Punjab, including three greenfield highway projects spanning 104 km, worth Rs 3,264 crore, which were recently withdrawn due to the lack of available land.
