Delhi poll narrative not roti, kapdaa but makaan
The HinduSlum dwellers’ rehabilitation has become one of the focal points of the Delhi Assembly poll. At an event, Mr. Modi said, “The world knows that Modi never built a house for himself, but in the last 10 years, we’ve built over four crore homes for the poor.” Addressing a gathering of hundreds of slum dwellers in Jawaharlal Nehru stadium on Saturday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah promised that if the BJP comes to power, every slum dweller would be provided with a house. And now this is Modi ji’s guarantee – BJP will give houses to every slum dweller in the country,” he said. ‘Unrealistic’ Calling the BJP’s guarantee “unrealistic,” AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal countered by saying, “At the rate at which the PM inaugurates flats before elections, which is 4,700 houses in roughly five years, the BJP will deliver on its promise of housing for all in roughly 200 years as Delhi has about 4 lakh slum clusters where 15 lakh people live.” Mr. Modi had inaugurated 3,024 EWS flats at Kalkaji Extension in November 2022, weeks before the Municipal Corporation of Delhi poll. AAP has claimed to have made the “lives of slum dwellers better” by laying sewer pipelines, building roads, providing free electricity and ensuring continuous water supply.
