Rudd gives panda pledge

Prime Minister Kevin Rudd has dismissed doubt raised over whether two pandas from China will travel to Australia. Opposition backbencher Alexander Downer called on Mr Rudd to guarantee that Budget cuts would not slash the funding program to transfer and house the two pandas at Adelaide Zoo. The president of Zoos SA, Heather Caddick, is delighted that Mr Rudd has made clear the Government's ongoing support for the giant panda partnership between China and Adelaide Zoo. "There's great anticipation here about the Year of the Panda next year and it's just so wonderful that the Federal Government will be supporting the giant panda partnership between China and Adelaide Zoo," she said.
