ABC 7.30 host Leigh Sales on the coronavirus stories that moved her to tears and setting up to broadcast from home

ABC

As the coronavirus crisis unfolds, Backstory is interviewing ABC journalists, broadcasters and behind-the-scenes staff about covering the story. 7.30 host Leigh Sales tells of the emotional impact of interviewing people who've lost someone to the virus. Sending a selfie back to the studio to make-up artist Chris Sall so he can advise Sales how to improve her home make-up job for the standard required by professional lights. At 7.30, we've also found a real willingness from people to appear on the program to help spread information, from the Prime Minister to the Qantas CEO to families who've lost loved ones to COVID-19. I want people to think: "Well, life is so bizarre and so scary, but I can switch on at 7.30 and Leigh Sales won't let me down, she'll be exactly like she always is."
