Farmers stage protest against inordinate delay in evicting encroachment on supply channel
The HinduT Farmers affiliated to Tamil Vivasayigal Sangam staged a protest at the monthly farmers’ grievance redress meeting on Friday, in protest against an inordinate delay in evicting encroachments from a supply channel in Amathur near Virudhunagar. He complained that even after the Special District Revenue Officer inspected the site and confirmed that one V. Rathisudha had encroached upon the supply channel, the officials were not ready to remove the encroachment. Mr. Narayanasamy said that after buying agricultural land along the water course, the land owner had levelled the land with the supply channel and has put up fence, including the supply channel. However, after the DRO said that he would issue the notice immediately and assured action positively, the protesting farmers left the meeting hall.
