Government mulls cap on surge pricing, penalty against drivers of cab aggregators

New Delhi: The Centre is likely to cap surge pricing charged by taxi aggregators such as Ola and Uber. In what may improve women safety and consumer experience, the government may also mandate taxi aggregators to have a 24x7 helpline. While a broad framework is expected to improve customer experience, it is also likely to increase the compliance burden, along with higher regulatory scrutiny for the cab aggregators. The government was prevented from intervene in matter involving cab aggregators, their drivers and riders earlier as there was no clear law regulating the industry.
