
CM Siddaramaiah Opposes Centre's Move to Amend UGC Recruitment Rules
Deccan ChronicleBengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday said to oppose the Centre’s move to amend the University Grants Commission recruitment rules to give full authority to Governors over appointment of Vice-Chancellors in State Universities. He assured to discuss the matter with non-BJP ruled State Governments and decide on the future course of action against the move of the Centre to amend UGC recruitment rules. In a statement here, Siddaramaiah termed the move of the Bharatiya Janata Party led Union Government proposed significant changes regarding the eligibility criteria for Vice-Chancellors and the new rules allow for the appointment of Vice-Chancellors drawn from public and private sectors including industrialists and public policy administrators. Expressing fears of non-native individuals making to the post of Vice-Chancellors of Universities, Chief Minister stated the new UGC regulations makes it mandatory to place national-level He said the amendment to UGC recruitment rules made way for Governors to meddle in the appointment of Vice-Chancellors in State universities.
