New figures show more than 15 per cent of homeless people have a job
ABCSabra Lane: The latest report card on homelessness has found numbers continue to grow. Stephanie Smail : That daily struggle is mirrored in the latest findings of the Australian Homelessness Monitor, which shows there's been a more than 30 per cent spike in the number of Australians aged over 65 who are homeless in the past six years. Stephanie Smail : The 2024 Australian Homelessness Monitor shows nearly 80 per cent of services like the YWCA Canberra have found it harder to find clients a place to stay this year compared to the year before. Stephanie Smail : Professor Pawson says despite the growing homelessness figures, state government efforts, particularly in Victoria, to boost social housing stock are starting to make a difference. Hal Pawson: Lettings to homeless people in social housing in Victoria have increased by 110 per cent in the last two years.
