Another Day, Another Recall
Huff PostPhoto Credit: Autoweek The results of a study by Recall Masters shed some light on the auto safety recall epidemic happening now in the US and around the world. Close to 900 safety recalls were announced last year, setting yet another record in the US – global numbers are said to be much higher. The National Highway Traffic safety Administration requires auto manufacturers to file a public report describing the safety defect and a schedule for the recall. Once a car changes ownership, there is currently no federal law that makes it mandatory for dealerships to disclose they have used cars for sale on their lots with open, potentially dangerous safety recalls. Reports culled from government data have found 25 percent of car owners will never complete recall repairs, and that one-fifth of the 238 million cars active on the road has a related-recall repair problem.
