Mum with postpartum psychosis thought she was going to stab her son

Daily Mail

A mother has revealed how she came close to taking her own life while suffering from postpartum psychosis, after being dismissed by doctors who said she just had 'baby blues'. From then on, Jessica says she became ‘obsessed’ with what was going on inside her head, developed severe anxiety and struggled to eat. After her diagnosis Jessica was sent to a mother and baby unit with Chester in Chelmsford called the Rainbow Unit for six weeks Recalling the first time she had intrusive thoughts about killing her son, Jessica told Femail: 'It didn’t happen gradually. ‘They told me I’d just given birth and I had "baby blues",’ Jessica recalled. Looking back on her terrifying experience, Jessica thinks postpartum psychosis is still largely unknown – and more new mums are suffering from the illness than we’re aware of.
