'No delay in calling Army…': Shah defends Modi over Gujarat riots

Union home minister Amit Shah said on Saturday that the primary reason behind the 2002 Gujarat riots was the Godhra train burning incident. Shah's comments come a day after the Supreme Court dismissed the plea filed by Zakia Jafri, widow of slain former Congress MP Ehsan Jafri, challenging the clean chit given by the Special Investigation Team to Narendra Modi and several others in 2002 riots. Shah also said that the then Gujarat government did not delay in calling the army to quell the riots. The Supreme Court also said that the state government had controlled the situation with less damage,” the Union home minister also said.
