Winter break deal finally struck with FA and EPL for 2020

The FA Cup is set to be moved to midweek as part of a deal that has been struck to finally introduce a winter break into English football. The break, due to start in February 2020 after being agreed between the FA, Premier League and Football League, will see players take the first two weeks off. As part of the deal, the FA Cup 5th round will now be played entirely in midweek – breaking the strong tradition of weekend ties – and with no replays. The FA Cup, won by Arsenal last year, will see its 5th round move to a midweek slot The winter break will not apply in the Championship, League One and League Two as the 46-game league schedule already means a schedule packed with midweek fixtures.
