Man United’s Rashford left out of England’s provisional Euro 2024 squad after disappointing season
Associated PressBURTON, England — Marcus Rashford was left out of England’s provisional squad for the European Championship on Tuesday. “With Marcus, I feel players in the same area of the pitch have had better seasons, it’s as simple as that.” Rashford was arguably the biggest name to be omitted — especially after enjoying a career-best campaign two seasons ago when he scored 34 goals for club and country. Rashford’s United teammate Kobbie Mainoo was selected after an outstanding breakthrough season and Chelsea forward Cole Palmer was also included. Former Liverpool captain Henderson misses out after his decision to leave Anfield for the oil-rich Saudi Arabian league last year, while James’ absence comes on the back of an injury-plagued campaign for Chelsea. ___ Squad: Goalkeepers: Dean Henderson, Jordan Pickford, Aaron Ramsdale, James Trafford Defenders: Jarrad Branthwaite, Lewis Dunk, Joe Gomez, Marc Guehi, Ezri Konsa, Harry Maguire, Jarell Quansah, Luke Shaw, John Stones, Kieran Trippier, Kyle Walker Midfielders: Trent Alexander-Arnold, Jude Bellingham, Conor Gallagher, Curtis Jones, Kobbie Mainoo, Declan Rice, Adam Wharton Forwards: Jarrod Bowen, Eberechi Eze, Phil Foden, Anthony Gordon, Jack Grealish, Harry Kane, James Maddison, Cole Palmer, Bukayo Saka, Ivan Toney, Ollie Watkins ___ AP soccer: https://apnews.com/hub/soccer
