Political parties, on April 20, intensified their poll campaigning for the second phase of the 2024 general election with Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying at a rally in Karnataka’s Chikkaballapura that big and powerful people in India and abroad have joined hands to remove him from power. Mr. Modi also took a swipe at Rahul Gandhi, saying that “Congress’ sahabzade” will lose from Wayanad constituency in Kerala just as he lost from Amethi in 2019. Mr. Gandhi scoffed at claims of the BJP that it will win more than 370 seats in the Lok Sabha elections, asserting that “their tally will not go past 150”. Nearly 30 Lok Sabha constituencies in Tamil Nadu recorded a dip of at least two percentage points in voter turnout in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, compared to the previous general elections in the State.
