Will Bo Nix start in Year 1? Could Justin Simmons return? Broncos mailbag
The puzzle is beginning to come together for the Denver Broncos. The Broncos had insight into just how much Nix did by quizzing second-year lineman Alex Forsyth, who was Oregon’s center during the quarterback’s first season in Eugene. He said if you already have a starting quarterback who is “special” at the time you draft a rookie — Brett Favre in Green Bay when it drafted Aaron Rodgers; Rodgers starting when the Packers drafted Jordan Love — it provides a valuable model for a rookie that shows, “Hey, this is how the week goes.” “There are times when you don’t have that luxury and we’ve seen that with Peyton and then it’s, ‘Hey, it’s time to go. That’s not to say there is nothing Nix can learn from Stidham or Wilson, who are entering their sixth and fourth seasons in the NFL, respectively, but I think Payton was shedding insight into how he would handle a rookie quarterback in the offseason to come. With Bolles set to hit free agency next offseason, the first round of the 2025 draft sets up as a likely place for Denver to find Nix’s blindside protector for the foreseeable future.
