Family of murder victim Peter Smith 'can grieve properly now' as Paul Roomes sentenced to life in prison

The family of a man who was bashed to death in a "violent, brutal and senseless" attack in his own home say they are satisfied justice has been served. Justice Sandi McDonald told the court Roomes formed the impression that Mr Harwood was provoking him and "having a go" at the pair for being "blind" drunk. Roomes then turned his aggression to Mr Smith and violently bashed him to death with neighbours reportedly hearing him yelling "I'll kill you, you bastard". " could hear Mr Smith screaming out in pain … eventually the screams stopped, but the sounds of the beating continued," Justice McDonald said. "Hopefully, we can grieve properly now, while this case was happening, we couldn't grieve properly," Mr Smith said.
