Canadiens’ Sean Monahan returns to Calgary playing the way that made him a star
New York TimesIt is easy to forget that Sean Monahan was among the castaways from a turbulent Calgary Flames offseason. “I spent almost half of my life there; it’s going to be weird,” Monahan admitted Tuesday night when asked about his first game back in Calgary with the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday. “If Sean had been one of those guys on a long-term, that’s a captain.” After being scratched, Monahan only played two more games before letting Flames management know his right hip was hurting so much he couldn’t go on. “Sean is one that plays through a lot of stuff without telling a lot of people,” Flames GM Brad Treliving said when he announced Monahan’s season was over and that, a year after having surgery on his left hip, he would be having the same on his right hip. “It’s nice, but I’m still finding my game right now,” said Monahan, who is on pace to hit 50 points this season.
