Protests brewing in Wayanad as one more person falls victim to wild elephant attack
The HinduProtests are brewing in Wayanad with one more person dying in wild elephant attack, the second such incident in the past two days, and the United Democratic Front calling for a hartal in the district on February 13. UDF activists staged another protest outside the Sulthan Bathery Taluk Hospital blocking the ambulance carrying the body and they later took out a march to a Forest department office as well. Major political parties stayed away from the protest and bus operators and merchants’ organisations such as the Kerala Vyapari Vyavasayi Ekopana Samithi did not extend support to it. Meanwhile, district UDF leaders said that essential services, examinations, weddings and the feast at Pallikkunnu Church would be exempted from Thursday’s dawn-to-dusk hartal.
