From 53% to 91.8%: Indian schools see major electrification power up in 10 years

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced that 91.8% of India's schools now have electricity, a significant improvement from 53% in 2013-14. As per Unified District Information System for Education Plus data from a 2021-22 report, there has been a steady increase in school electrification: 2019-20 : 80.16% of schools had electricity. 2020-21 : 83.92% : 83.92% 2021-22: 86.58% UTs like Delhi, Chandigarh, and Puducherry reported 100% electricity access, while states like Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Punjab, Kerala, Sikkim, Haryana, and Karnataka also showed high coverage. Additionally, schools in northeastern states report lower access to functional electricity, followed by regions like Odisha and Jammu & Kashmir.
