Don't contest elections then: Omar Abdullah on ally Congress's EVM rigging charge
India TodayJammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has pushed back against the Congress party's objections to Electronic Voting Machines, aligning with the BJP’s stance that political parties cannot praise EVMs when they win and blame them when they lose. When asked if his comments mirrored those of a BJP spokesperson, Abdullah quipped, “God forbid!” but stood by his remarks, saying, “What’s right is right.” He added that his views are based on principles, not partisanship, citing his support for the Central Vista project as an example of independent thinking. “One day voters choose you, the next day they don’t,” he said, citing his own experience of losing Lok Sabha elections but winning a majority in the September Assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir. Abdullah’s remarks have added to the National Conference’s simmering tensions with the Congress, its ally during the September Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir.
