Sensex jumps over 600 points: 2 reasons why stock market is rising today

Benchmark stock market indices erased the losses made in early trade and witnessed a rally in the afternoon session on the first trading day of 2025 as Sensex gained over 600 poinst whereas Nifty managed to jum over 200 points. The stock market rally was fuelled by a rise in auto, banking, media and FMCG sector stocks which helped both Sensex and Nifty reverse their losses in early trade. Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., one of India’s leading automotive companies, today announced that its overall auto sales for the month of December 2024 stood at 69768 vehicles, a growth of 16%, including exports. SECTORAL STRENGTH Broad market indices showed strength on January 1, 2025, with Nifty Smallcap100 gaining 0.92% and Nifty Midcap100 rising 0.33%.
