Wood-burning stoves should be labelled with health warning because of the dangers of indoor air pollution, report backed by 100 Tory MPs says
Daily MailTrendy wood-burning stoves should come with a health warning because of the dangerous pollution they emit, according to a report backed by more than 100 Conservative MPs. As many as 36,000 people in the UK die prematurely due to air pollution and fine particulate matter generated by household stoves - known as PM2.5 - is considered by scientists to be particularly hazardous. There are believed to be 1.5million wood-burning stoves in the UK, with up to 200,000 sold each year PM2.5 is considered by health experts as the most dangerous form of air pollution. A Defra spokesman said: 'There have been significant improvements in air quality at a national level since 2010. our Environment Act made it easier for local authorities to act on pollution from domestic burning in smoke control areas and it is their legal duty to do that by issuing fines as they deem necessary.'
