The HinduThe police and the Food Safety department have seized over 4 tonnes of banned tobacco products during the searches conducted across Tenkasi district last year, District Collector A.K. In a statement, he said the district administration had intensified the drive by the police and Food Safety department officials against the banned tobacco products, sale of drugs without prescription by qualified physicians, and the narcotic substances. A total of 33 special teams comprising police and Food Safety department personnel had been deployed across Tenkasi district to seize banned tobacco products, narcotic substances, and the drugs. “Since intensive searches by the police and the Food Safety department officials are continuing, 24.43 kg banned tobacco products have been seized from 15 shops between December 30 and January 5 last.
