ABCWith reforms to Western Australia's Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Act set to come into effect on July 1, the positions of the government and those calling for delayed implementation of the new laws have grown more entrenched. Anthony Kannis: "In terms of clearing land that hasn't been previously cleared, yes, you need to check if there is Aboriginal cultural heritage in the area. "This is Aboriginal cultural heritage, it's been there for probably thousands of years, so I think it's clear that they can rely on that as long as it's been done according to our survey guideline." Anthony Kannis: "It's a moderate impact on the land that's involved, so it's falling into tier three and there's a risk of harm to Aboriginal cultural heritage. "I think people need to use common sense, and if there is Aboriginal cultural heritage close by, it's appropriate to do some sort of survey."
