Bombay HC to Maha govt: Give reasonable time to Godrej before taking their land for bullet train project
India TodayThe Bombay High Court has asked the Maharashtra government to give reasonable time to Godrej & Boyce Manufacturing Co. Ltd to approach the court whenever notice for taking possession of their land will be issued. The high court said, “Notice of possession of land for bullet train project will include a reasonable period for Godrej & Boyce to respond,” and clarified that in the event the company is “aggrieved by the notice of possession issued by the Maharashtra government for acquiring land towards the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail Project, the company will be at liberty to move the court.” Advocate General Ashutosh Kumbhakoni, representing the Maharashtra government, on Tuesday told the Bombay High Court that the acquiring body of the state government has already deposited a sum of around Rs 264 crores as compensation award on October 17. #NHSRCL pic.twitter.com/OW5dvb9fyD — NHSRCL October 17, 2022 A bench of Justices Nitin Jamdar and Sharmila Deshmukh was hearing a petition filed by the company challenging an order of the state government dated September 15, 2022, awarding compensation for the land it wants to acquire from Godrej for the bullet train project. In its affidavit, the government emphasized the importance of the bullet train project and said, “The Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail Corridor project is a priority project of the Government of Indiaâæ.It will be India’s first high speed rail line and shall transform the passenger transport system of the country with state of the art technology for the benefit of the public at large,” it said adding once functional, the train would serve 17,900 passengers every day.
