Ganga cleaning got a major boost, the river got rid of waste from Asia’s largest sewer

Cleaning of river Ganga got a major boost when the engineers in Kanpur finally got rid of waste from Sissamau Nalla, diverting it to Jajamau sewage treatment plant. However, it was a herculean task for the engineers to stop the remaining 6 crore liters of sewage from getting drained in Ganga because the velocity of the drain was similar to a canal. In addition, a nearby sewage drain Dabka Nallah which used to excrete 30 lakh liters of waste in Ganga was closed. Sewage Treatment Infrastructure, River-Front Development, River-Surface Cleaning, Bio-Diversity, and Industrial Effluent Monitoring are some of the areas on which Namami Ganga initiatives are based.
