DMK hopes to contest in 20 seats in 2026 Assembly election, says party convenor R. Siva
The HinduThe Puducherry unit of DMK is hoping to contest 20 seats as part of an alliance in the 2026 Assembly election if allowed by the party’s central leadership in Tamil Nadu, DMK convenor and Leader of Opposition R. Siva has said. Addressing a State executive committee meeting of the party, Mr. Siva also hinted at fielding candidates in all 30 seats if the DMK went to the election without an alliance — at present, the DMK is the principal Opposition party in the INDIA bloc in Puducherry Assembly, with six MLAs to the two members from Congress. However, it could present an early indicator of how the regional party wishes to position itself as the primary player within the INDIA bloc in its sphere of influence in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. While speaking at the meeting, Mr. Siva also shared his conviction about the Dravidian model of governance in Tamil Nadu finding increasing resonance with voters in the Union Territory.
