NSW government gives Liverpool City Council one week to prove why it shouldn't be suspended and local elections postponed
ABCLiverpool Council has been given a week to prove why it should not be suspended after an investigation found "widespread and serious concerns about dysfunction" within the council. Mr Hoenig said examples included "interference in the procurement process, or mechanisms to get around council's procurement processes to pay a consultant $1.4 million without complying with the procurement processes". "People of Liverpool City Council are entitled to a council that operates with integrity and puts their interests first and that clearly doesn’t seem to be the case," Mr Hoenig said. Acting Liverpool City Council CEO Jason Breton said the council would "continue to cooperate" with the ongoing Office of Local Government investigation and participate in the public inquiry. Liverpool City Council Mayor Ned Mannoun welcomed a public inquiry, while calling the report "purely political".
