Xiaohongshu: Another Chinese app rises in US as the sun sets on TikTok
FirstpostWith ByteDance-owned TikTok facing imminent ban in the US this week, users in America are switching to another Chinese social media app Xiaohongshu or RedNote which has seen a surge in downloads over the last few days Republican leader Donald Trump will be back as the President of the United States on January 20 and China is worried as he has threatened the world’s second biggest economy with sanctions and tariff hikes. However, when it comes to social media apps, Americans — who recently voted Trump back to the White House — appear to have no such antagonism against Chinese apps. With over 170 million people in the US — more than half of the country’s population — using TikTok, the users seem to be banking on another Chinese app — Xiaohongshu. From TikTok to Xiaohongshu Recent days saw a rise in downloads of Xiaohongshu — which translates to “little red book” in Mandarin and is considered the Chinese equivalent of Instagram — on iOS and Google Play Stores in the US.
