Minister and Independent MLA engage in heated exchange in Puducherry Assembly
The HinduThe Puducherry Assembly on Thursday witnessed a heated exchange between Minister for Social Welfare A.K. The argument ensued when the Minister, while replying to a question, stated the government’s plan to issue patta to around eligible 2,000 persons on August 15 this year in Puducherry. Expressing doubts about the Minister’s claim to issue pattas on August 15, Mr. Siva, who represents the Thirunallar constituency, said beneficiary identification had not been carried out in the Karaikal region of the Union Territory. When the Minister challenged the legislator to produce the proof for the alleged wrongdoings, Mr. Siva said: “If I speak more, it will not be good for you.” As the Minister and Independent legislator started arguing further, Opposition leader R. Siva said the Minister should clarify whether the government will be able to issue so many patta deeds by August 15. Intervening at this juncture, Home Minister A. Namassivayam said the Social Welfare Minister had only provided details of beneficiaries already identified, and the process of issuing patta had started.
