Indian, Chinese Armies raise a toast to friendship ahead of PM Modi-Xi Jinping meet

India Today

The Indian and Chinese Army officers on Tuesday raised a toast, shook hands and hugged each other at a border personnel meeting in Bum La hosted by China on its side. These scheduled meetings are held four times a year at different occasions including India's Independence Day and Republic Day hosted by the Indian Army. The informal summit in Wuhan in April 2018 between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and China President Xi Jinping paved the way for the two countries to move forward. Over two months, a stand-off that was resolved in August 2017 was triggered after Indian troops stopped the Chinese road construction in Doklam, a region under dispute between China and Bhutan.
