Southern California heat wave to bring temperatures up to 119 degrees
LA TimesThe hot weather Monday included high temperatures at Disney Hall in downtown Los Angeles. Southern California was bracing Monday for a heat wave expected to bring triple-digit temperatures to much of the region this week. “We are in what’s already the hottest time of the year climatically, and we are going to be 10 to 15 degrees above normal, in almost every area from the beach to the deserts,” said meteorologist Ryan Kittell of the National Weather Service’s Oxnard office. Although summer is the hottest season inland, coastal California typically sees its hottest temperatures in September or October, as this week’s heat wave demonstrates. Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass announced Monday afternoon that the city would be opening cooling centers across the city and would also have “climate stations” on Skid Row where people could get cold beverages and rest in the shade.
