Push for 70% of water allocation in Krishna basin to Telangana as per international practices: Revanth Reddy

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy said the officials should push for 70% of water allocation in the Krishna basin to Telangana as the river covers 70% of area in Telangana and 30% in Andhra Pradesh. The international principles and practices of water sharing are in tune with the argument that water allocation should be made in the same proportion depending on the river basin area covered, he said and instructed the officials to present arguments so that Telangana gets 70% of the water share out of 1005 TMCft of available water from river Krishna. The Chief Minister reminded that since Andhra Pradesh was using 80 TMCft of Godavari water for Krishna Delta through Polavaram 45 TMCft of water has been allocated to Telangana upstream of Nagarjunasagar in return. At a review meeting on the water availability in Krishna and Godavari basins and irrigation projects along with Minister for Irrigation N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, the Chief Minister asked the Irrigation officials and legal experts to collect required evidence, records and orders before presenting the arguments before the Tribunal.
